 2011 Cheltenham Gold Cup Winner

2011 Cheltenham Gold Cup

It was a case of out with the old and in with the new in the 2011 Gold Cup at theCheltenham Festival. King George VI winner Long Run was sent off the bookmakers' favourite and he duly obliged in a thrilling race where he was pushed all the way by former winners Denman and Kauto Star. The outgoing champion Imperial Commander was also in a hot looking field but he pulled up coming down the hill three out. All three of the contenders jumped the second last together before Long Run, under the stewardship of owner's son Sam Waley-Cohen forged on to win impressively by seven lengths from Denman, with Kauto Star back in third.
