The feeling was that this wasn't the strongest of renewals and although having an excellent summer and autumn, the winner Baily Green may find the going too tough with any further step up in class.

This was a good debut win over the big fences for last season's Supreme Novices' Hurdle runner-up. He was the only horse who hadn't run over chase fences and hge saw off the challenge of Sire De Grugy well enough coming up the hill.

This was an eventful race when odds on favourite Oscars Well fell at the second fence, leaving the front two to gallop off and fight out a finish.

This was a comfortable win for the favourite, who looks like being a better horse over longer distances to the Arkle.

Nicky Henderson continues to dominate this division and his five year old Captain Conan impressed with his win at Sandown here by three and a half lengths from Hinterland. It was a very good test of jumping and he's now second favourite for the Arkle next March.

This was another competent display from the Willie Mullins trained Arvika Ligeonniere who another Arkle hopeful Oscars Well by two and a half lengths to strengthen his claims near the head of the Arkle market.

This was the Arkle favourite's second run and win in a week and he put in another good round of jumping in this convincing win.

This was a decent display from the winner, although Colour Squadron was the horse to pick out of the race with jockey AP Mcoy's saddle slipping forward with a circuit to go. The Champion jockey managed to coax the horse around to finish and you have to think he'd have been there or thereabouts given a fair crack at it.

Only three runners here and when the favourite Arvika Ligeonniere fell four out, it looked like Oscars Well would take the win before he blunded to hand the race to Benefficient.

Majala got the better of the favourite Fago who looked like going on to win this before falling two out. Fago remains third favourite for the Arkle whilst Majala is a big price for the champion two mile at Cheltenham.
