The Arkle Trophy Chase is run over a distance of two miles for novices, with twelve tricky fences to jump.
Favourite for the 2010 renewal at the Cheltenham Festival is the 2008 Supreme Novice Hurdle winner, Captain Cee Bee, who has recovered from the injury that kept him off course throughout last season. He is disputing favouritism with Sizing Europe, a multiple winner over hurdles and one time favourite for the Champion Hurdle. These two represent a strong Irish challenge in this year’s race. Another who has a major chance is the Henrietta Knight trained Somersby.
