The First race on the 2010 Cheltenham Festival card is the Supreme Novices Hurdle, this is always the curtain raiser for the Festival. It is run over the Champion Hurdle course of just a little over two miles and it is a race for four year olds and above. It was won in 2009 by Go Native at 12/1. Dunguib runs in this for Ireland and is seen by many as their banker of the meeting.

Next up is the eagerly anticipated Arkle Challenge Trophy, which will see a hugely talented high quality field of Novice Chasers vying for the victory. The Arkle was won by the Irish with Forpadydeplasterer in 2009 and the Irish have Captain Cee Bee and Sizing Europe as their big hopes for this year's renewal, whilst Somersby has been well supported in the betting for this two mile novice chase.

Third race on the card is the William Hill Trophy Handicap Chase run over a course of just over three miles. It is the first big handicap race on the card so it will be a race with plenty of money on it. David Pipe's, The Package has recieved plenty of market support in the ante-post betting markets and as for any handicap at the festival, it's worth keeping a close eye on the market movers on the morning of the race.

Fourth race on day one is the Smurfit Kappa Champion Hurdle, run over just two miles and the Championship hurdling contest for 2010 season. There has been plenty of ante-post activity in the betting for this race and with any one of up to nine horses with a realistic chance of winning it is one of the most open looking renewals in recent years.

With the big one of the day out of the way, the fifth race of the day is the popular Cross Country Chase over three miles and seven furlongs over the cross country course. This is only fifth running of the race but the previous winners have all been high up the betting. It has been won in both 2008 and 2009 by Garde Champetre who was ridden by Nina Carberry on both occasions and trainer Enda Bolger has a good record in this race and he'll be bringing back his squad of popular horses in 2010 for another crack.

The final race of the Day One card is the David Nicholson Mares Only Hurdle over two and a half miles, it has been running for two years and was won in 2009 in brilliant style by Quevega who produced one of the best performances of the week. Willie Mullins' mare will be back for another crack at the race this year, but will face tough opposition in the shape of Voler La Vedette.
